Course Content FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support for Healthcare Assistants (HCA) Code 5M3782
The FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support Certificate consists of 8 FETAC Level 5 Modules. The certificate is one of the Department of Health and Children’s recommended qualification for HCA. It will also meet the requirements of the National Standards for Residential Care Facilities which are in place since June 2010.

AED heart saver CPR certification will be covered as a requirement for the care skills module. All the modules will be taught by registered nurse tutors (RNT).

Methods of Assessment Projects, assignments, Learner records, examination, collection of work for the various modules. Most of the assessments are work based and work related which makes the class contact time more meaningful and relevant to the participant by linking theory to practice thus ensuring that evidence based quality care is provided to all residents patients.

Aims
This study day aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform phlebotomy in line with An Bord Altranais and local policy guidelines.

Eligibility Registered nurses from private nursing homes, care agencies and hospitals.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the study day the participants should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of vein selection and rationale

2. Prepare the patient for the procedure

3. Display competence in the selection and assembly of the appropriate equipment

4. Demonstrate competence in phlebotomy on bench top models

5. Identify potential complications of the procedure together with infection control and health and safety issues surrounding phlebotomy.
