Course Content Gain the knowledge skills required to handle refrigerants used in mobile air conditioning (M.A.C.) which are classified as either fluorinated gasses (F-Gas) or Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) This is necessary for the service, maintenance, recovery and leak checking of mobile air conditioning.

Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the function, layout and operating principles of mobile air conditioning systems, including the components, equipment, tools for system recovery, vacuum, recharging and flushing.
2. Understand the procedures required for service and general maintenance.
3. Understand the environmental implications, legal, equipment, procedures and Health and Safety requirements for storage, refrigerant identification, refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, adding oil refrigerant recharging, final leak detection, flushing and disposal of Mobile Air Conditioning refrigerants and components.
4. Competency in refrigerant identification, initial system evaluation – testing, via pressure gauges, temperature, air distribution and speed. Recovery, vacuum check, leak detection, visual, electronic, oil injection and charging for service and general maintenance and repair procedures for both thermal expansion valve or fixed orifice tube air conditioning systems.

Duration Two days during week one, 12 days distance study and two days week two which includes assessments .

Subjects Taught • Identify basic terms, principles, units, theory and thermodynamics of vapour compression cycles and refrigerants.
• Identify the causes and effects of global warming and climate change.
• Identify causes and effects of ozone depletion.
• Identify stationary refrigerant, air conditioning and heat-pump system components, functions and leakage risk.
• Identify the hazards and safe working practices for the installation, commissioning and handling of refrigerants.
• Fabricate, braze and examine pipework.
• Undertake pressure testing, evacuation and record completion.
• Undertake refrigerant charging, leak checking and record keeping.
• Recovery and disposal preparation of refrigerant and oil.

Course Content The aim of this course is to provide the experienced engineer with the knowledge, skills and certification to work on the installation, service, maintenance, recovery and leak checking of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump equipment that contains refrigerants classified as either fluorinated gasses (F-Gas) or Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).
