Course Content This course suits two groups (the course is flexible depending on your needs)
1) Technical staff new to moulding who wish to understand the process - will be given a thorough introduction to the moulding cycle, plastic materials, basic troubleshooting, common processing errors, safety, etc, using analogies to allow attendees to visualise the process and so understand it in detail. Practical sessions will concentrate on setting up the process from scratch, dealing with pre-set faults, fixing machine stoppages (tolerances, alarms, etc). Remaining time will be spent troubleshooting and discussing quality/ defect issues.

2) Operators/ Technicians with responsibility for mould changing/ set-up. The course follows the format above but the practical sessions concentrate on changing moulds, mould monitoring set-up (press/ speed/ switchover points), calculating and setting locking force. Setting up injection parameters to produce good shots and basic troubleshooting will be covered in less detail.

Trainee participation is encouraged in all discussions and practical demonstrations.

The course will be supported with numerous practical demonstrations on Demag, Krauss Maffei and Fanuc(electric) injection moulding machines.

Our training centre has three Injection Moulding Machines:
Demag NC4 25 ton
Fanuc All Electric Roboshot 100 ton
Krauss Maffei 100 ton

Where possible we restrict Injection Moulding course numbers to just six places using three machines. Our courses can be run in-company if required, or we can modify any course to your needs. FETAC (NCVA/ CEDEFOP) certification is included in the course costs - The FETAC approved examination conducted at the end of the course counts as one credit towards our Vocational Certificate in Polymer Processing.

Who Should Attend?
This course is devised for personnel at operator level who are interested in developing the basic skills to set up an injection moulding machine. The course material will be such as to have a very practical application.

Methods of Assessment The assessment at the end of the programme, if successfully completed, will lead to one credit towards a major(compound) award, of which 8 credits are needed in total. Please see How to achieve a FETAC major award with FPT. Some of our programmes have assignments as part of the assessment which should be completed by the learner after the programme has finished. Full instructions, time lines and ongoing guidance will be given by the course tutor.
