The Summit Finuas Network launched its fourth Funds Industry Job-seekers Support programme (JSSP) in early July 2015 and revealed excellent progression rates for participants from the last three programmes. Of the 95 job-seekers who previously completed the programme, over 61% are now in employment.
The successful programme provides candidates with a combination of IT, technical and interpersonal skills, which will equip them to work in the funds industry in Ireland, currently employing over 13,000 people and administering over 40% of the world's alternative investment.*
Current course participant Rehan Haider heard about the Funds Industry programme from his local INTREO office. Rehan had just completed an MSc in Finance and felt that this programme could offer him a bridge to gaining permanent employment in international financial services. He said: “The course has made it so easy to understand the concepts behind derivatives especially options, futures and FX futures, and has built my confidence to the next level, making me believe in myself.”
Laura Brennan, a graduate of English and Economics and a participant from an earlier programme explained: “The programme provided me with excellent up-to-date course content for today’s jobs market. This, along with the ability to obtain a work placement, was hugely beneficial in helping me to secure full-time employment. I am now working in a large financial services company gaining exposure to many different areas on a truly global scale.”
There were over 60 applicants for the 20 available places in this year’s programme and a competitive interviewing process took place to select each of the candidates. As in previous years, member companies provided staff to assist with the interviews. A broad range of candidates were selected, some with domestic banking experience, others with accountancy experience but all candidates were new to the funds industry. Each year, the programme content and delivery has evolved to ensure participants get the most from the programme recognising their transferable skills along their new skills.
