IMDA Skillnet has joined forces with the Department of Social Protection (DSP), IDA Ireland and local Sligo companies to develop a new Engineering Process Technician Course to be delivered by IT Sligo, to train job-seekers for careers in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. The purpose of the course is to address future skills shortages for engineers in the region. An information day for potential participants was held in July to provide details of the initiative which includes training in good manufacturing practice (GMP), basic metrology, injection moulding, basic electrics, pneumatics, hydraulics and interpreting drawings.

The Engineering Process Technician course is open to applicants in receipt of Job-seeker’s Allowance, Job-seeker’s Benefit or those signing for credits. All course participants will have the opportunity to gain a Level 6 industry recognised qualification which result in them being offered a paid work placement for three months with one of the supporting companies.
