Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet, First Polymer Training Skillnet and Galway Executive Skillnet are among the networks that have become involved in the Jobnet programme, developed by Jobcare in partnership with Worklink. The innovative and award-winning new programme is designed to address the needs of the professionally skilled job-seeker or graduate.
Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet undertook a pilot programme in April and worked with 35 people over a six week period. They are planning to run a second programme in Kilkenny later this year.
Employment outcomes for participants have been positive. First Polymer Training Skillnet delivered the programme in late 2014 and reported that 55% of the participants had secured employment by the end of the programme. Volunteer HR and recruitment professionals, local employers and guest speakers worked with 18 job-seekers on setting goals, implementing action plans, networking effectively, preparing for interview and securing employment in the digital age during the programme. Galway Executive Skillnet also ran a pilot programme with 12 participants in late 2014.
The Jobnet programme focuses on personal branding, networking, goal setting and job seeking and involves one session a week over a six week period. Participants work in table groups of six to eight people. Each table group is supported by a volunteer facilitator whose role is to be a resource to the group. Key messages in the programme include confidence-building, reinvention, up-skilling, network building, targeted job search and seeking out local opportunities.
